StealthEdit
Private writing, encrypted by default.
A simple macOS text editor for notes that should not be plain text.
Write normally. Save encrypted.
StealthEdit keeps encryption in the normal save flow. Create a document, set a password, and write; the file is encrypted with AES-256 before it touches disk. There is no separate export step and no unencrypted document mode.
The details that matter
- AES-256 encryption with password-protected documents
- Cloud-safe files that stay unreadable in Dropbox, iCloud, or backups
- No accounts, telemetry, or cloud dependency
- Markdown support for clean formatting
- Password recovery is intentionally impossible; without the password, the file stays locked
Good for
- Private journals, financial notes, medical notes, and research
- Confidential work notes that may live in a synced folder
- Sharing encrypted files with someone who has the password
